Wheelchair user fearful for her life, unable to leave Jurong home due to neighbour's corridor clutter

A wheelchair user continues to face issues leaving her home, as her common corridor is blocked by items a neighbour has been hoarding since August 2023.
This is the second time Stomper Rosalind, who lives at Block 318A Jurong East Avenue 1, has alerted Stomp to this issue.
In December 2023, Stomp reported that the town council had advised the resident to remove items from outside his unit.
Rosalind said: "Nothing good came of it. They blocked the corridor and put things inside the gas and water door like they own the place. My well-being is turned upside down.
"I am a woman using a motor wheelchair, trying to be independent so that I can go about my daily routine. It is hard to move when the corridor is blocked. Sometimes I can't take my lunch or dinner because I cannot go out."
She sent photos and videos of the clutter to Stomp.
Rosalind explained that when the wind blows strongly, items may fall onto the ground. Since she lives alone, she has to wait for a neighbour to pass by to pick up items that are in the way before being able to leave.
She told Stomp: "He cleared the items last time, but suddenly they were outside again. I called to him about the fallen items, but he didn't come to help pick them up.
"If you want to put a lot of things outside, you must be responsible. If the items pile up so high and become a fire hazard, then how? If it's a fire hazard, how am I going to run? Nobody understands that I have this chronic pain that I keep to myself."
The worst scenario for Rosalind is having an item hit her and cause her to black out.
"Nobody is there for me. I live alone," she said. "I try to be independent, but even so there are limits."
In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson from Jurong-Clementi-Bukit Batok Town Council said it is aware of the situation at the block.
The spokesperson added: "Our officer has been engaging the resident and advising on the importance of keeping the corridor clear for safe and unimpeded passage.
"The town council continues to monitor the situation closely and will take further action, as necessary, to keep common areas safe and accessible for all residents."
